Mayweather and Pacquiao off….for now

It was too good to be true.

Announced so matter of factly, when it was claimed Floyd Mayweather would face Manny Pacquiao on March 13th very few people thought it would actually go ahead on the proposed date.

Then Golden Boy and Top Rank built our hopes up claiming they had a few little things to sort out before the contract was signed. Little did we know one of these ‘little things’ would be as major as Mayweather requesting USADA regulated doping tests for the fight that could have seen Pac giving blood during the week of the fight.

Mayweather’s father has previously alledged that Pac must be on performance enhancing drugs, citing that as the reason he has been able to ascend throw numerous weight classes yet retain his speed and power and the fact that Manny is refusing to take these tests now makes it seem like he has something to hide especially as Mayweather would take the tests too.

Arum claims that he is superstitious and has a fear of needles but like Leonard Ellerbe (Floyd Mayweather’s advisor) said ‘his body is covered in tattoos’.

I personally think he is clean and that he is just a phenom, I have bet against Pac too many times to not believe this but to turn down $40m for a few table spoons of blood especially after Freddie Roach previously said they have no problem with the tests is ridiculous and will inevitably raise a few eyebrows.

People initially thought it would be Mayweather who would find a way to cause a problem in negotiations but now the spin being put on the breakdown in talks is that it’s Manny, who has every right with the demands of the USADA, that is backing down.

Even though Arum has said the fight is dead, let’s hope for us the fans and the sport of boxing, that they can get over this blip and make the fight happen.
